Travel - Tinggi Island, Malaysia

Introduction -
Pulau Tinggi (Tinggi Island) is located on the east coast of Johor is one of the highly estimated population among the east side of Johor Island. Probably about 448 people lived here. The Island itself has it own natural source such as fruits, rattan, timber, fresh water and a good sheltered harbor.

Pulau Tinggi rises 2000 feet above the sea level (600m) was once an important stop for ancient traveler and traders because of it sheltered harbour. The Chinese seamen also named the island as the “General Hat Island ” hundreds of years ago.

Today, Pulau Tinggi known for its white sandy beaches, famous resort and Marine Park Centre for turtle hatchery and giant clam breeding. Besides, the beautiful hills and jungle of the island provided unique natural environment for nature lovers. The main activities prefer here is snorkeling and scuba diving because of its fresh clear blue water.

On My Travel There -
My Journey by bus from Petaling Jaya, Selangor takes about 8 hour drive to Tanjung Leman Jetty located in Mersing Johor via the PLUS south and north highway. During the journey, the bus stopped at two R&R stop. The first one at Air Keroh, Melaka at about 2am in the morning and the second stop at Kota Tinggi, Johor around 4.15am.

I arrived at Tanjung Leman jetty at 7.45am and take some breakfast while waiting for the boat service to open at 9am. The price for the boat here is quiet affordable for the budget traveler. With only RM4.00 ( 1.1 U$ Dollar) the boat will take you to Tanjung Balang and Sebilah Besar Island besides Pulau Tinggi (Air conditioned) with estimation of 40 minutes on board.

For my accomodation, i stayed in Nadia’s Inn, I rated this place as 3star resort for the accommodation they provided. There were no television, mini bar and bath tab. Just air conditioner equipped with water heater, one sofa, one wardrobe, one drawer with mirror and two nice single bed.

At the Island -
I take a long bath after sweating during the journey to be here. If you not using the water heater you will feel very cold because at Pulau Tinggi they use the waterfall as their main water supply since they were no other water source but the water is fresh probably coming from the hilly side of the island.

For food at the cafeteria, It will cost you RM4.50 (1.5 U$ Dollar) for fried rice (nasi goreng) and free drink refreshment (plain water and orange juice). Outside the resort there is another eating place named as Azimah Cafe (probably one and only cafe in west side of Pulau Tinggi besides the resort cafeteria) manage by the local kampong people.
In here, you can do Jungle trekking around the Island and checkout the waterfall located at east side of the Island however the track is slippery especially during rainy season. For snorkeling, you can bring your own equipment otherwise, you need to pay RM20 for hiring the stuff. Photographer perhaps can go to the island where the best time to snap some shot during the sunrise especially at the jetty. The rental for the canoe can be found here and no need to worry about the mass size of visitor since this place is quite away from attracted population of Johor.
