James Blunt - Lights Off, Lights On

His debut album ‘Back to Bedlam’ marks its spot at 16 territories worldwide along with the smashing single of ‘You’re Beautiful’ and ‘high’

Origin from Tidwirth, Wiltshire, England, James Blunt is among today’s music listener highlight. Putting his trademark on the middle – tune of pop, rock and folk, his music appearance is well accepted at various age stages. His debut album ‘Back to Bedlam’ marks its spot at 16 territories worldwide along with the smashing single of ‘You’re Beautiful’ and ‘high’. Blunt ‘Back to Bedlam’ described as the best sold album in 2006 with the worldwide sales of 11 million copies. In UK itself, 3 million copies of the debut album were sold and in US, it was certified as 2x platinum with 2.6 million copies being taken home from the record store.

Start to immerse seriously in music at Harrow School, Elmfield House. Blunt write his own song at the age of 14 after the introduction of guitar by his friend. Few years later, he continues his education at Bristol University under the army sponsorship studying about Aerospace Manufacturing Engineering. Not long after that, he show interest in Sociology subject and graduate with a BSc before completed his education at Royal Military Academy Sandhurts. However, Blunt music career only start in 2003. Upon finishing his study, he is required to serve under military for some period since he’s education fund sponsored by the British Army. From there, he has been post to various locations around Europe with different mission including as a NATO peacekeeping force in Kosovo.

On first of October 2002, Blunt lights off his army service in hope to pursuing future as a musician. At first, he signed under EMI music publisher and to Twenty-First Artist Management but due to some issue, he decided to accept Linda Perry invitation under her new label, Custard Records. Linda who coincidentally in London heard the promotional tape produced by Blunt and her interest rise after watching Blunt live performance at South by Southwest Music Festivals. Four weeks after the label signing, he travels to Los Angeles to meet producer Tom Rothrock. Both of them start to work together and at the end ‘Back to Bedlam’ release to market in 2004.

Blunt second studio album ‘All the Lost Souls’ arrive in September 2007. The first single on the album ‘1973’ repeat tradition from the debut, claiming number one spot on World Singles Top 40 chart. Kerri Mason of Billboard review that ‘All the Lost Souls’ as ‘There is no misstep throughout’ quotes “Blunt shows the abandon and confidence of a long-term artist, not just a one-hit wonder.” For records, by the end of January 2008 the album had sold 3.5 million copies internationally and certified gold within four days of its interception in UK market. Besides walking through his life as a musician, Blunt is a patron of Help for Heroes, a charity to fund money to help injured British Servicemen. He also active in raise funds for Doctors without Borders or Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), a medical care worker team whom he know well during his duty at Kosovo as well supporting environmental causes such as plan a tree programmed through buying advance concert ticket from his website. – Lights Off, Lights On.
